Our second week in San Francisco was just as packed as the first. Once we were comfortable navigating using public transportation we were able to get around downtown a little better so we explored a lot of different areas.
Exploring Downtown San Francisco
We were able to walk down Lombard Street, ride a cable car, see some exotic birds randomly in the middle of the city, and have a sweet treat at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory. We walked back down to the San Francisco Pier and watched the sea lions and picked up dinner at the Ferry Building.
USS Hornet
On Memorial Day, we went to the USS Hornet in Alameda and walked through the aircraft carrier. They had a service for fallen servicemen and told stories of their own time serving our country.
USS Pompanito
While it was a quick tour, walking through a diesel-powered submarine was quite an experience! It was a very tight fit, but we managed to make it through unscathed. I can't imagine living on something so small!
San Francisco Zoo
Before leaving San Francisco, we made a stop at the San Francisco Zoo. This zoo was great, with lots of animals and a lot of opportunities to experience animals you don't normally get to see in other zoos.
Up Next
After an overnight stop at a casino parking lot (hey, they have GREAT security!), we drove to Newport, Oregon for the week. We anticipate a slower pace and a lot of seafood in our future.
